Key Responsibilities
- Oversee and maintain MySQL 8 databases deployed on-premises.
- Conduct regular database upkeep, including backups, restoration tests, and performance enhancements.
- Diagnose and resolve database-related issues to minimize downtime and uphold data integrity.
- Develop indexing strategies and optimize queries to boost database efficiency.
- Collaborate with the client's Managed Service Provider (MSP) to synchronize database and server maintenance activities.
- Implement and configure monitoring tools such as Datadog or New Relic to assess database performance.
- Monitor resource utilization and key performance metrics of databases.
- Manage deployment pipelines, uphold Git repositories, and ensure proper dependency oversight.
- Provide assistance to developers in configuring servers, databases, and version control systems.
- Support the client's web infrastructure including NGINX and internal sites accessible via VPN.
- Enhance website security by implementing two-factor authentication (2FA) solutions and other protective measures.
- Respond promptly to emergency support inquiries during weekends and after-hours, maintaining a 4-hour response time.
- Prioritize support requests during business hours, adhering to a 24-hour response timeframe.
- Address routine support tasks within a 72-hour window and investigate critical system outages or security incidents.
Required Skills
- Proficient in MySQL (version 8+ preferred), with practical experience in database optimization, troubleshooting, and restoration techniques.
- Comprehensive understanding of DevOps methodologies, CI/CD pipelines, version control (Git), and configuration management.
- Familiarity with on-premises server frameworks and cloud solutions (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).
- Experience with monitoring and alerting platforms such as Datadog and New Relic.
- Strong grasp of NGINX, web infrastructure settings, and scripting languages (Python, Bash, etc.) for automation.
- Knowledge of two-factor authentication systems (Duo) and web security protocols.
Qualifications
- 3-5 years of proven experience as a Database Administrator, DevOps Engineer, or in a related role.
- Hands-on experience in managing MySQL databases in live environments.
- Experience in on-call support and handling critical infrastructure operations.
- Prior expertise in performance tuning and optimization is advantageous.
- Experience in client-facing or consulting roles is a plus.
